![]() One Lamar student was chosen for SDTC annual scholarship awards. Christina Tran was chosen by Dr. Kabir Sen, Department head of Marketing for Lamar University. She is going full time working on a double major. Christina is from Port Neches originally and will be graduating from Lamar in May 2010. Also recognized were Lacey & Logan Theriot, and Ashley Landry the current recipients of the dependent scholarships awarded in August 2009. Vincent Bartholomew was also awarded the first member scholarship. Many thanks to all our members who have participated in the monthly fund raisers in order for SDTC to be able to continued to award scholarships! |

February 9, 2010 Installation of 2010-2011 Officers and Board of Directors
The installation will be conducted by Danny Schnautz our TCI Regional VP on February 9, 2010 at 6:00 pm at Rich Courville’s on Hwy 90. Come out & show your support for your new leaders!
The ballots have been counted, the committee has reported. The SDTC Officers and Board of Directors for the 2010-2011 year are:

A special thanks to Deral Segler for being our guest speaker for the January luncheon. A true man of patience in dealing with those of us in the defensive driving schools for driving outside of the law!
Some of the new laws now in effect as of September 1, 2009 are:
.All occupants of a vehicle to be secured by safety belt.
.Any child younger than 8 must be in approved child passenger safety seat.
.Illegal to use a cell phone in a school zone when sign is posted at beginning of school zone unless using a wireless communications device.
. Illegal for driver under 18 to use a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle
.Minors can be charged with public intoxication
. Motorcycle license applicants must provide evidence of completion of an approved motorcycle operator training course. . Increased the total hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction a teen received by adding 20 hours by a parent/guardian after TEA develops criteria curriculum. (goes into effect May 1, 2010). |

Super Bowl Trivia!
. Bart Starr was MVP for the first two Super Bowls, regular season MVP in 1966, NFL Man of the Year, Professional Player of the Decade and the first winner of the Byron White Award. Starr led the Green Bay Packers to 5 NFL titles and 2 Super Bowl wins. He later served as head coach for the Packers (1975-1983).
. Emmitt Smith’s stolen Super Bowl helmet was returned to him several weeks after the 1994 Super Bowl, following an anonymous phone call to Valley Ranch. The caller was granted assurance that no questions would be asked.
. Super Bowl XXXVI marked the first time in Super Bowl history that the winning points came on the final play, a 48-yard field goal by a New England Patriots kicker Adam Vinateri. Super Bowl XXXVI was viewed by 131.7 million viewers, making it the fifth-most watched program in television history.
. The San Francisco 49ers became the first team to win five Super Bowls on January 29, 1995, when they defeated the San Diego Charges 49-26 in Super Bowl XXIX.
.On January 25, 1981, the Oakland Raiders defeated Philadelphia 27-10 in Super Bowl XV to become the first wild-card team to win a Super Bowl. MVP Jim Plunkett passed for 3 touchdowns, including an 80-yard strike to Kenny King.
. In Super Bowl XXII, rookie running back Timmy Smith rushed for a Super Bowl record 204 yards, leading the Redskins to victory and breaking the previous mark of 191 yards set by Marcus Allen of the Raiders in Super Bowl XVII. Smith also scored twice on runs of 58 and 4 yards.
. In Super Bowl XXIV, Joe Montana completed a Super Bowl record 13 consecutive passes. He finished the day with 297 passing yards and a Super Bowl record five touchdown passes. He was also named Super Bowl MVP for a record third time.
. Roger Staubach holds the record for most career fumbles in a Super Bowl. He coughed up the ball five times in four Super Bowl appearances.
