Port Night representation consisted of the Port of Beaumont, Port of Orange and the Port of Port Arthur .  Ernest Bezdeck of the Port of Beaumont brought us up to date on the daily operations. Port of Beaumont is the 2tnd largest port (by tonnage) in the US.  Military cargo.  Many new projects are planned for 2006 and many were completed in 2005. The completion of the new Port Security building which houses a hurricane proof room got it’s test with Rita. It did not sustain any damages.  The military ships on site at the time provided a place for local equipment such as fire trucks, ambulances and bull dozers that were needed immediately following Rita.

Forest products are a big commodity at the Port of Port Arthur.  Many of the products are imported from South America.  As with all the ports, the rub building did sustain some hurricane damaged but has already been repaired and is back in use.

The Port of Orange is the smallest of our local Ports.  There is a new company called Signal moving in the area which will be using our port facilities.  They are in the process of completing repairs from Rita.

Many thanks to the Port of Beaumont, and the Port of Port Arthur for providing the door prizes for Port Night.

A special thanks to our local ports for their presentations!
