Jay Sheppard was a great speaker for the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas at our March 8, 2011 luncheon at the Cattle Company.  She was very informative on the services that the BBB offers to the public.

One of their areas of expertise is settling complaints.  The BBB has a protocol for complaints that they follow with both the consumer and the business representative.  If they are not able to settle the issue with phone calls to/from both parties, then they will suggest a mediation resolution.  Sometime mediation is court ordered from a judge for specific cases.

The public can also go on the BBB website and obtain information on a business.  They are able to see if the business is registered with the BBB as well as the BBB rating of the business, and the length of time the business has been a member.

For more information the BBB website is:

http://www.beaumont.bbb.org

Thank you, Jay!

BBQ Dinner Fund Raiser – March 4 was a big success.  It was a lot of hard work

and made for a challenge to get the deliveries made (all by 11:30am) and have

everyone else’s dinners ready by 11:30 am as well, but we made it!  Being the first

time we had tried this type event, we made a few mistakes that we learned from,

but we had fun and made money for the scholarship fund!

We are looking at doing this type event in the Fall, so if you would like to help

or have suggestions where we can make improvements-let us know!

Our condolences go out to Archie Davidson in the loss of his beloved wife, Lenna.  We will all miss her smiling face at our events.

May 16-22, 2011 National Transportation Week

This year the nation celebrates National Transportation Week on May 16-22, 2011.  Our club will be honored as Mayor, Becky Ames, signs a mayoral proclamation proclaiming NTW week.  This event will take place at the Beaumont City Council meeting on May 10 at 1:30pm if you would like to attend.  At this time, the President of our Club, Al Anselmo will be on hand to accept the proclamation and give a short speech on the history of our club.  This year SDTC is celebrating its 80th year in the Golden Triangle.  Our Club was established in 1931.  Most of our existing members were not around back then, but it is exciting to know of all the scholarships and donations that have been made by our club to those in need over the years!

Mauriceville Middle School will be hosting a poster contest this year by their art students with a “What Transportation Means to Me” theme.  Several of our Board Members will serve as judges for this contest.  It is impressive to see the different ideas that the younger generations have about what transportation is by their designs and ideas.  We will honor the top three poster winners and have their work on display in the near future.

Watch the April Equalizer for additional events in the area.

                                                          Old Farmer’s Advice

  • Life isn’t about how fast you run or how high you climb, but how well you bounce.
  • Keep skunks and bankers and lawyers at a distance.
  • A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
  • Words that soak into your ears are whispered….not yelled.
  • Forgive your enemies.  It messes up their heads.
  • Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
  • Live a good, honorable like.  Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.
  • If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.
  • The easiest way to eat crow is while it’s still warm, ‘cause the colder it gets, the harder it is to swallow’.
  • The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with watches you shave his face in the mirror each mornin’.
  • When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
  • Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.
  • It don’t take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep.
  • Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment!
  • Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.
  • If you don’t get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.
  • Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
  • You cannot unsay a cruel word.
