December 11, 2007 Sabine District Annual Christmas Party at the Cattle Company

Festivities begin at 6:00 pm!

Bring your spouses and friends and help us celebrate at the annual Sabine District Transportation Club Christmas Party!  There is lots of fun to be had as the Chinese Christmas; or I guess I should say Dirty Santa or Grinch Exchange.

Lots of ooh’s, ahh’s and “gimme a break” can be heard as the gifts are swapped, stolen or at least liberated from its prior owner.

Last year’s visions of snowmen and Santa’s ruled.  What is in store for this year-anything goes! Tools anyone?????

January 8, 2008 Scholarship & Election Luncheon at the Cattle Company

At our January 8, 2008 meeting we will recognize two Lamar University students that we will be awarding scholarships.  At this time we will also recognize our dependent scholarship winners, Lacey & Logan Theriot.  We hope to see each of you there to honor these students!

If you know of someone or if you would like to serve on the Board of Directors or as an officer for the 2008-2009 year, please get in touch with Danny Phillips, 1st Vice President.

He is head of our nominating committee and needs your support. He can be reached at (409) 838-0126.

Don’t forget, your vote counts, so be sure to mail the ballots back in to the committee.  These votes go directly to the committee, unopened until the votes are counted.  In case of a tie, there will be a vote at the January meeting to determine the winner, so you need to be there to support your candidate!

Did you know?                                                                                                                                                                          Editor:  Larry Kelley
One of the most fun ideas for a Christmas gift exchange at an office party or at a home party is a game commonly called Chinese Christmas. I don’t know how or where the name came from, because it has absolutely nothing to do with the Chinese. Not only that, some may find the reference to Chinese insulting.
I know I’m not always the most politically correct…comes from being direct…Anyway, I’m encouraging the use of other lesser-known names such as Yankee Swap, Gift War, Grinch Exchange, Dirty Santa, Rob Your Neighbor, White Elephant, Nasty Christmas, and Thieving Secret Santa. My personal favorite is Grinch Exchange.

Editorial Word:

All kidding aside, in this time of promotion and commotion let’s not forget the devotion. Noticed in the paper, news, etc., about sales, Black Friday, sales doing better than last year, etc, etc,. Same time I heard people talking about the condition of the economy. Seems silly.

Only thing sillier were the lines of people and those choosing to camp out for some form of consumer electronics. Anytime I see the long lines busy parking lots to buy whatever…I think it must be the economy. Without question we are living in a period of great economic expansion. Too often I think we get caught up miss the more important things.

I challenge each of us to slow down, look around and count our blessings. Cherish the friendships, family and beliefs that keep us strong.

Celebrate Christ’s birth and God’s greatest gift.
Thanks, Larry
